NEIGHBOURS

A prefabricated, contemporary, modular townhouse in Neutral Bay, Sydney. The project challenges the stigma surrounding exposed living conditions on street-front dwellings. The channel glass facade offers a distorted barrier towards the interior, securing the privacy of the inhabitants.

The dual homes are intended for 2 clients, a couple wishing to retire in an urban environment and 3 young students sharehousing from regional NSW who want to absorb an unfamiliar urban cityscape. A diverse range of contextual settings are promoted by being situated on a main roadway. The dense urban nature of the site poses as a challenge. The architecture of this project intends to negotiate between these parameters and transform obstacles into opportunities.

The configuration of the modules, confined by a strict grid, adapts to the needs of the inhabitants. Each unit provides a meditated response to the specific listing of priorities to the clients. The project, tucked between commercial environments, acknowledges a threshold of programs in relation to private and public spaces.
